FunStream (“we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the FunStream mobile application (“the App”).

By using the App, you consent to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

  • Account Information: When you register, we collect your username, email address, and/or phone number.
  • Profile Information: Display name and profile photo (if provided via Google Sign-In).
  • Chat Messages: Text messages, images, videos, and GIFs you send in the community chat. Chat messages are automatically deleted after 24 hours unless marked as permanent.
  • Challenge Data: Information about challenges you create or participate in, including titles, descriptions, and participant lists.
  • Reports: When you report a message, we collect the report reason, the reported message content, and your user ID.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Device Information: Device type, operating system version, and unique device identifiers.
  • Firebase Analytics: App usage patterns, session duration, and feature engagement (anonymised).
  • Push Notification Tokens: Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) tokens for delivering notifications to your device.
  • Log Data: Error logs and crash reports to improve the App.

1.3 Information from Third Parties

  • Google Sign-In: If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google.
  • Phone Authentication: If you sign in with your phone number, Firebase Authentication processes your phone number.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the App.
  • Create and manage your account.
  • Deliver chat messages in real time.
  • Send push notifications for new messages, mentions, and announcements.
  • Enforce community standards through automated moderation (auto-hiding reported messages, temporarily muting reported users).
  • Detect and prevent spam, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Service.
  • Respond to your requests and provide customer support.
  • Improve and develop new features for the App.
  • Comply with legal obligations.

3. Legal Basis for Processing (UK GDPR / EU GDPR)

If you are located in the United Kingdom or European Economic Area, we process your personal data based on the following legal grounds:

  • Contract: Processing necessary to provide the App service to you (Article 6(1)(b)).
  • Legitimate Interests: Processing for security, fraud prevention, and service improvement (Article 6(1)(f)).
  • Consent: Where you have given explicit consent, such as for push notifications (Article 6(1)(a)).
  • Legal Obligation: Where processing is required to comply with applicable law (Article 6(1)(c)).

4. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do NOT sell your personal data. We may share your information in the following circumstances:

4.1 With Other Users

  • Your username, display name, and chat messages are visible to other users in the community chat.
  • Your participation in challenges is visible to other users.

4.2 With Service Providers

  • Firebase (Google LLC): We use Firebase for authentication, database (Firestore), file storage, cloud messaging, and cloud functions. Google's privacy policy applies: https://policies.google.com/privacy
  • Apple Push Notification Service: For delivering push notifications on iOS devices.

4.3 For Legal Reasons

We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid legal requests by public authorities (e.g., a court order or government agency).

4.4 Business Transfers

In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

5. Data Retention

  • Chat Messages: Automatically deleted after 24 hours (except permanent messages such as challenge announcements).
  • Account Data: Retained for as long as your account is active. Upon account deletion, we will delete your personal data within 30 days.
  • Reports: Retained for up to 90 days for moderation and safety purposes.
  • FCM Tokens: Automatically removed when you log out or when tokens become invalid.
  • Mute Records: Automatically expire after 24 hours.

6. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data, including:

  • Encryption in transit (TLS/SSL) for all data communications.
  • Encryption at rest for stored data via Firebase.
  • Access controls and authentication for all backend services.
  • Automated token cleanup for expired or invalid credentials.

However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your Rights

7.1 For UK and EEA Users (UK GDPR / EU GDPR)

You have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate personal data.
  • Erasure: Request deletion of your personal data (“right to be forgotten”).
  • Restriction: Request restriction of processing of your personal data.
  • Portability: Request transfer of your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Object: Object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Withdraw Consent: Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.

7.2 For US Users

Depending on your state of residence, you may have additional rights under state privacy laws (e.g., California Consumer Privacy Act, Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act). These may include:

  • The right to know what personal data we collect and how it is used.
  • The right to request deletion of your personal data.
  • The right to opt out of the sale of personal data (we do not sell personal data).
  • The right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights.

8. Children's Privacy

FunStream is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal data from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.

For users in the United States, we comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

9. International Data Transfers

Your data may be processed and stored on servers located outside your country of residence, including in the United States (via Google/Firebase). Where data is transferred outside the UK or EEA, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, including Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the relevant authorities.

10. Push Notifications

  • We use Firebase Cloud Messaging to send push notifications to your device.
  • Notification types include: new chat messages, @mentions, and challenge announcements.
  • You can disable push notifications at any time through your device settings (Settings > Notifications > FunStream).
  • Disabling notifications does not affect the functionality of the App.

11. Cookies and Tracking

The App does not use cookies. However, Firebase may collect anonymised analytics data. You can opt out of Firebase Analytics through your device settings.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the App or by other reasonable means. The “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy indicates when it was last revised. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
